I think that everyone is aware of how hard the art world can be.
Thousands of people compete in an over-exploited sector, art, and they struggle to highlight and show their vision of the world to other people.
Many people believe that an artist must win the support of other people by "chance". This means that you have to let time pass until your art arrives (through word of mouth) to everyone. But that's to leave your work and effort to pure chance. Many good artists stay in the shade, waiting to be valued someday, others simply continue waiting for an event that throws them professionally.
In my country there are great artists with international fame as Luis Royo. He commented in his interviews that: "I went from door to door showing my art to create an opportunity and be valued"
After a few years, Luis managed to get enough support to start his projects, but his beginning worked it himself (showing his art "from door to door")
With this I try to show that it isn't bad to teach your art to others, through a "letter of introduction".
Send messages, show your work, your effort, your passion.
Doing it doesn't make you less an artist nor does it degrade your work, you are only showing it to your future supporters, if they love your work. We have to end that stigma of "Send messages showing your art is frowned upon"
I also tell you that before sending a portfolio you have to be sure that your content is of quality. If your content isn't quality people will not take you seriously and your image as an artist will be damaged. But if your content is good, you should look for opportunities.
We live in the age of internet and globalization, human beings need the support of other human beings. There is nothing wrong in it.
At this moment, the artist depends on his followers and the global support to be able to live from his work, for that reason, visibility is very important.
For these reasons I have sent you my cover letter. I believe that every person counts and is important in my way. Artists have to work very hard "be seen" in a world where there are MILLIONS of artists.
